pair jump from bridge

This is 5minutes from our flat, in fact we can see it from the living room window. Since it opened in the early 70s people have been jumping from it, 99% of the time not surviving the drop. There have been so many suicides that it is now no longer newsworthy so I am puzzled as to why this particular one is breaking news on the sky website.

Hopefully this won't be the start of another spare of jumpers. Maybe if they knew that depending on the way the wind is blowing will depend if they hit the water or land in the Glen Lusset (pub) car park they might think twice about it.

Mind you, it does make for good viewing when there is nothing on telly and you hear the chopper and see the spotlights ;)

I saw this on the news last night, and thought it was the bridge near you - in which case you have already said you get lots of jumpers! Like us near Beachy Head (well 30 or so miles) - but we don't get every suicide/attempted suicide reported

Yep, managed to get out of the *ahem* remand home *ahem* and jump off the bridge. Bishopton, where the home is, is roughly 15mins walk to the bridge. Am surpriset that the staff didn't realise that two of their charges were missing, especially as there are only 12 'live in' girls there so it's not like it would be really hard to miss them. Home is run by the Catholic church so as well as the local authority holding and inquiry there is the possibility that the church will have to look into what happened.

Tragic, but people jump off the bridge all the time, some are even teenagers although most are adults, but it doesn't make the news. There has to be something else behind this for it still to be in the news today.
